What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding uses composite resin to repair chipped, cracked, or broken teeth. This method, also known as bonded restoration, brings the tooth back to its original shape and strength. With the right care, it can last for years. It is also a great option for reshaping teeth, correcting tooth color, and closing small gaps without needing veneers or orthodontics.

How Does Dental Bonding Compare to Other Options?

Every smile is different. During your visit, we will review your goals and explain which treatment options are best suited to your needs. Here are some of the advantages of dental bonding:

Quick and Comfortable

Bonding is typically noninvasive. It often requires no freezing or drilling, which makes it a very comfortable experience.

Lower Cost Upfront

Compared to veneers or braces, bonding is more affordable and is often the best choice for small cosmetic fixes.

Ideal for Minor Fixes

While larger restorations may require crowns or veneers, bonding is perfect for repairing small imperfections in a cost effective way.

The Dental Bonding Process

Dental bonding is a fast and effective procedure. Whether you are correcting damage or enhancing your smile, here’s what happens during the visit:

Preparing the Tooth

The tooth is cleaned and dried, and nearby teeth are shielded with a thin plastic strip. A mild acidic gel is applied to help the bonding material attach securely.

Placing the Resin

We apply a composite resin that is matched to your tooth color. It is shaped in layers, and each layer is cured using a special light to harden it.

Polishing and Finishing

After shaping and curing, the bonded tooth is polished to match your natural teeth. The result is smooth, seamless, and natural looking. Your dentist will also check your bite to make sure everything feels right.

Cost of Dental Bonding in Olathe

On average, bonding costs between three hundred and six hundred dollars per tooth if you do not have insurance. With insurance, the cost can drop to as little as sixty to one hundred twenty dollars per tooth.

Several factors can affect the price of your bonding treatment, such as:
  • How many teeth require treatment
  • Whether x rays are needed
  • How much composite material is used
  • The location of the tooth
  • Your current oral health

The best way to get an accurate quote is by booking a consultation. We will examine your smile and give you a full breakdown of your treatment plan.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most bonding lasts between four and ten years or more. Good habits and regular dental checkups can help it last even longer.

Bonding is not considered permanent, but it can be long lasting with the right care. It can also be touched up or replaced as needed.

That depends on your goals. Veneers are best for long term, dramatic changes. Bonding is faster, more affordable, and well suited to smaller cosmetic concerns.

No. Bonding does not require much enamel removal and is considered gentle on your natural teeth. It is also easy to repair if it becomes chipped or worn.

Yes, composite bonding is frequently used to fill cavities. It helps protect the tooth and restore its original shape and strength.

Dental bonding is very safe. The materials are approved for use in the mouth and the procedure is well tolerated by most patients when done by a skilled professional.

After nearly 30 years of being a patient I figured it was time for a review. Dr. Burgmeier runs a first class dental practice. His staff is polite, efficient & they do a great job. Dr. Burgmeier really cares about his patients; I remember him coming in for an emergency on a Saturday afternoon to fix my teeth after a biking accident. Go see Burgmeier, you won’t be disappointed.

I've been coming here for quite a few years and have always had a great experience with Dr. Burgmeier and all the hygienists I've had! I really appreciate how easy they are to make appointments with. I moved out of state but come back to KS often and they always accommodate to get me in when I'm back home. I can text or call them and they'll text me reminders to get me scheduled. Overall, wonderful team, and I will continue to come here!

I can only say good things about Dr. Burgmeier and his staff. He is great at what he does, and has a winning personality as well …. especially good with dentures, which was my concern. His staff is always very helpful and courteous. I would strongly recommend his practice to anyone with dental problems, as I have had great experiences there! Charles Miller

This office is amazing! I started going here in the late 90s then moved after a few years. I decided to try to find a dentist near my new home so I changed. It took about two visits to realize that Dr. Burgmeier was worth the drive so I cane back! The staff is amazing - friendly and gentle - and I feel like Dr. Burgmeier has my best interests at heart and I feel safe with him working on my teeth.
